Flex Builder 2 Now Available at Macromedia Labs!

As promised, Flex Builder 2 (Zorn), Flex Framework 2, and Flash Player 8.5 are now available in alpha form at a really cool new Macromedia site, called Macromedia Labs. The url is http://labs.macromedia.com/.

Labs is a new site that we announced today at Max and I'm really excited about it. When we were planning Zorn, a key thing that we wanted to do was to attract more developers to the Flash Platform. A key component of doing that is getting high quality information out to people early and often, and of course the highest quality information you can get is working versions of software. Labs is our vehicle for doing that. It's a place where we can make works in progress available for people to play with.

In addition to the software, labs has other cool things. There are Wiki's for sharing information, whitepapers, and even videos. Though I haven't seen it, yet, I did shoot two videos where I walk through the first couple of Flex Builder Tutorials. Pretty basic, but you might want to check them out.

One interesting thing for some people to know is that Labs was launched by Sara Spaulding. Some of you might know Sara by her maiden name, Sara Williams. Sara used to run MSDN at Microsoft and was responsible for a lot of the changes there in terms of openness. I worked with her when she ran the team that put together all of the educational for .NET, including the GotDotNet site. She's at Macromedia now, heading up developer relations and it's great to have her here. She and the Labs team did a great job in launching it.

So check out the labs site and have fun playing with Flex Builder 2!
